The high innovative strength of medium-sized German companies in the automotive supplier industry is helping to open up new possibilities. OEMs are increasingly outsourcing development work within the context of new topics such as E-mobility, autonomous driving or the use of weight-optimised carbon, aluminium or magnesium components. This trend is proving particularly beneficial to specialised supplier companies, which are managing to establish themselves as strategic partners to automotive manufacturers thanks to their flexibility and customer-specific innovation processes.
The speed of technological advancements will no doubt increase even further over the years to come, which will be accompanied by even shorter model cycles. This will in turn increase the requirements placed on supplier companies.
This will also be accompanied by innovation and price pressure, which is higher in the automotive supplier sector than almost any other industry. The inverse conclusion of this is that benefits and risks are very closely connected. For supplier companies, these challenges mean that a watchful eye and even closer communication with their OEM customers are required in order to respond quickly to unplanned scenarios
High levels of competitive pressure, new technical requirements and the desire of automotive manufacturers to differentiate their performance from that of other companies all mean that components are now increasingly being developed to be customer and product-specific. Although seals and slide bushings are usually immediately available as standard products, this is not of particular relevance in the automotive industry with its specially developed model series. The benefit of noticeably longer service lives, for example, is increasingly leading to the use of customised solutions. ttv is addressing this trend with a dedicated development department.
Over recent years, ttv has further established itself as a specialist in the automotive sector, with its two competence fields of seals and slide bushings. Typical challenges faced by ttv in this area include applications on ventilation systems designed to improve the haptic qualities, or O-rings for drive units for cargo-loading systems, as seen in the aerospace industry.
The frequently installed standard stock products are no longer adequate to deal with the increasingly demanding requirements.
This development lead ttv to the strategic decision to set up a separate department for customer-specific product solutions, with first-class capacity to support ttv customers. ttv has an experienced team of technology and engineering specialists to help with this task, and we attend to every conceivable detail of a project. Material properties, material composition and design open up numerous possibilities for improving performance, and help keep influencing factors strictly on the outside.
