Cassette-seals
Predestined for tough requirements

Our cassette seals are used in extreme conditions, such as those prevailing in the agricultural and construction machinery industry.

Self-contained, pre-lubricated and equipped with several sealing lips, the cassette seals form a sealing labyrinth. The actual sealing lip runs inside the cassette seals on a machined running surface. This means that the cassette places fewer demands on the shaft fit.

Among the sealing rings, the cassette seals are the specialist for influences such as high temperatures, dirt, dust or mud.

The characteristics of our cassette seals

Cassette seals are a self-contained sealing solution with a spring-loaded sealing lip and additional protective lips. They provide an excellent barrier against dirt ingress – a resilient solution that delivers impressive results.

Installing cassette seals for demanding applications

The requirements in the agricultural and construction machinery industry are particularly demanding, as are those in specialised machinery – this is precisely where cassette seals show their strengths. Installing cassette seals from ttv offers a solution that has been specially developed for these harsh conditions.

The design of these seals is characterised by a special sealing labyrinth. This labyrinth is closed, pre-lubricated and has several sealing lips. The main sealing lip moves within the cassette seal on an integrated running sleeve. The installation of cassette seals is simple and straightforward.

The advantages of these cassette seals are obvious

  • Perfectly suited for harsh and extremely challenging environments
  • Reliably prevent the ingress of dirt, dust and mud
  • Excellent performance even at high temperatures
  • No machining of the shaft, such as hardening or grinding, necessary

Among the various sealing options, cassette seals are the optimal choice when it comes to protection against dirt, dust and mud. This makes them tailor-made for the requirements of the agricultural and construction machinery industry.

Rely on cassette seals from ttv to ensure reliable installation, easy assembly and outstanding performance. Your machines will thank you for it.

Frequently asked questions

What are cassette seals and what are they used for?

Cassette seals are comprehensive protective sealing systems consisting of a shaft seal and an integrated counterface. They are used to ensure effective sealing between rotating shafts, hubs and static components. This prevents the ingress of dirt, liquids and other contaminants, thereby contributing to the smooth functioning of machines and systems. These seals offer efficient protection against environmental influences at all times and ensure the performance of machine components and mechanical systems. They are particularly suitable for systems that are exposed to high loads and whose mechanical parts require special protection.

What materials are typically used for cassette seals?

High-quality elastomers such as nitrile rubber and fluorinated rubber (Viton) are often used for cassette seals. These materials offer excellent resistance to different environmental conditions, different media (oils, greases) and chemicals.

What types of applications require the use of cassette seals?

Cassette seals are used in a wide range of applications, particularly in industries such as agricultural technology, construction machinery and the automotive industry for trucks, recycling technology, the oil and gas industry and mechanical engineering. They are always used when reliable sealing against dirt or liquids is required.

How does a cassette seal work to prevent the ingress of liquids or dirt?

A cassette seal works through the interaction of sealing lips and an integrated labyrinth. The sealing lips keep the medium to be sealed in check, while the labyrinth effectively prevents dirt or dust from penetrating between the components to be protected. This combination ensures a reliable seal at all times.

What challenges can arise during the installation or maintenance of cassette seals?

When installing and maintaining cassette seals, it is important to ensure that the components to be sealed are correctly aligned, that they are kept extremely clean and that the moving parts are adequately lubricated. Incorrect installation or neglect of these aspects can lead to leaks and reduce the service life of the seals.

What role do cassette seals play in various industries such as the automotive industry, food processing or mechanical engineering?

In the automotive industry (trucks), cassette seals help to protect axles from contamination. In plastic recycling grinders, they protect against extreme conditions, while in mechanical engineering they ensure the reliable functioning of rotating machine elements.

How are cassette seals installed?

The installation of cassette seals usually requires careful insertion of the sealing ring into the designated borehole or receptacle. Care must be taken to ensure that the sealing ring is not damaged and is properly aligned. If necessary, lightly lubricating the inner diameter can also make installation on the shaft easier.

What advantages do cassette seals offer over conventional seals?

Cassette seals offer an integrated solution that is easy to install and provides better sealing. The labyrinth design reliably prevents the ingress of dirt and liquids, which extends the service life of the machine components. The integrated labyrinth system forms an efficient barrier against various environmental influences. Further advantages are that special machining of the shaft by twist-free grinding is not necessary and hardening of the shaft is not required.

How does choosing the right elastomer affect the performance of cassette seals?

The choice of elastomer affects chemical resistance and also influences various operating parameters such as working temperatures. An elastomer selected to suit the respective operating conditions ensures reliable sealing under the specific conditions of the application. In addition, the selection of the appropriate elastomer has a significant influence on the performance of cassette seals. Only an optimally matched material ensures a robust seal at all times that can withstand the specific environmental and operating conditions.

How do cassette seals help to reduce environmental impact and costs?

By effectively sealing machines and systems, cassette seals minimise the leakage of lubricants and fluids. This not only reduces environmental impact, but also lowers the consumption of operating resources and maintenance costs. The risk of operational disruptions and failures is also reduced, and maintenance intervals can be extended if necessary. Cassette seals therefore also contribute to environmental protection.
