Ingredients in the recipe for success include extremely high levels of productivity and quality, which justify the difference in price from competitors from low-wage countries. Equally, the requirements over the entire supply chain are also becoming more demanding, either when it comes to central drive components or parts such as sliding bearings and seals.
In its journey to success, the mechanical engineering sector has never accepted any compromise when it comes to quality and innovation. As a result, it has always been able to develop features that set it apart from an extremely wide range of competitors on the global market, while also making sure that these features are economically beneficial.
These very same features are equally important for partners in the supply chain: innovative solutions, the use of new materials and unconventional ideas on increasing quality and service life.
It is precisely these market requirements that mean that components are now increasingly being developed to be customer and product-specific. The reasons for this are clear: standard products are increasingly unable to meet the demand of creating customer-specific differentiating features while significantly increasing performance and service life compared to the competition. ttv is addressing this fact with a dedicated development department for customised product solution, which it has called ttv Engineering Solutions.
Relatively new additions to the portfolio include drawing-based production parts from CNC processing, which ttv produces together with long-term partners in any defined quality on the request of a large number of customers.
Customer-specific solutions – they're really special to ttv. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that ttv has made a name for itself as a mechanical engineering specialist with its seals and slide bushings.
For ttv, typical challenges include applications relating to pumps, drive units, transmission gearing and motors. Very often, it is simply a question of increasing the service life while ensuring process reliability, thereby reinforcing the quality commitments to the customer.
The type of solutions that could be sought after here include continuous operation with increased temperature development or high levels of friction with proven leak-tightness. With outdoor applications, customers are often looking to permanently prevent the ingress of dust and moisture.
This development on the market lead ttv to the decision to pay more attention to customer-specific product solutions and to set up a separate development department. To make sure that it has sufficient capacity for short-term projects, ttv has set up an experienced team of technology and engineering specialists, and it attends to every conceivable parameter within a project. Looking at the shape, design, structure, material properties and the mixture of materials are various ways in which performance can be improved and demonstrable added value created.
Seals and slide bushings are usually only comparatively small components in the area of technological components and assemblies, but it is often the case that these C-parts have a huge influence on the service life and functionality of components in the mechanical engineering sector.
Customer and project-specific solutions from ttv have lead to demonstrable and significant increases in service life, temperature resistance, friction properties and leak-tightness over recent years.
In this example, the aim was to meet the requested service life of 1080 operating hours during an endurance test, without any leakages.
To this end, endurance runs were carried out on the customer's test benches with the sealing rings developed by ttv, with all series conditions in place. These included stop-start sequences at 25-second intervals with pressurisation and a 5-second pause, or axial movements over 7 mm and 4000 rpm on the swash plate.
The ttv developers drew on the geometry and material of the shaft sealing rings, and optimised them in accordance with their use. The fillers used in the compound and the applied radial forces were set on the test bench in continual operation at the laboratory.
