Mechanical seal for agitators

Areas of application for agitator technology

Agitators are used in the industrial production of food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as well as in the chemical industry. Other areas of application for mixing systems and agitators include water management, biogas plants, the construction industry and industrial process engineering.

Smooth processes in agitator technology

The two main components in agitators are a sliding ring and a counter ring, whose sliding surfaces are pressed closely together using spring force and hydraulic power. A sealing gap forms between the sliding surfaces, in which the liquid entering forms a thin lubricating film. The task of the lubricating film is to minimize the friction and heat generated during rotation and to ensure maximum tightness and resistance to aggressive chemicals. Low friction losses reduce energy consumption and wear and increase the service life of the agitator seal.

Mechanical seals for agitators from ttv - optimum function even under extreme conditions

The functional requirements for mechanical seals are specific and high.

The right sliding partners, materials and materials must be selected with a precise fit and designed according to the function in order to withstand extreme influences and high loads. Consistent prevention of the escape of liquids and gases as well as maximum sealing function and service life are essential for the optimum function of mechanical seals.

ttv offers mechanical seals of the highest quality both as standard versions from stock and as customized, customer-specific solutions.

Frequently asked questions

Can the right mechanical seals reduce maintenance costs for agitators?

Yes, if you use high-quality mechanical seals in the agitator system, maintenance costs can be significantly reduced. Downtimes - for example due to avoidable repairs - can also be significantly shorter. Several factors play a role in finding the “right” mechanical seal for your machines and applications. We will help you with the selection and are always available to assist you personally.

What advantages do mechanical seals offer over other types of seals in agitators?

Mechanical seals are usually the right choice when looking for a suitable seal for an agitator. They provide an efficient and, above all, leak-free seal and prevent the escape of gases, chemical substances or vapors. Mechanical seals also have an advantage when it comes to power consumption. Compared to stuffing box packings, they are less energy-intensive and require less maintenance.

How do you recognize that a mechanical seal in the agitator needs to be replaced?

Are you unsure whether your current seal in the agitator is still working properly and want to know whether it needs to be replaced? If you discover visible leaks, this is a first indication that the seal may no longer be suitable. If you notice unusual noises or vibrations, this may also be an indication that the seal is no longer functional. The performance of the agitator itself may also change - this can also be caused by a worn seal.
