Project example: the steel industry

A practical example from the steel industry demonstrates how bespoke design, rather than a standard solution, can sustainably improve the performance of heavily loaded plant.

APPLICATION:
In a European steelworks, crushing plants are used to break down slag and waste materials. The crusher shafts operate continuously under high mechanical and thermal loads, as well as in a highly abrasive environment.

REQUIREMENT:
The standard bearings used previously led to reduced service life and unplanned downtime due to wear, insufficient lubrication and impact loads.

SOLUTION APPROACH:
ttv developed an application-specific plain bearing solution in collaboration with the operator. High-load-bearing bronze alloys with integrated solid lubricants were used, along with an optimised bearing geometry for better load distribution – designed for critical lubrication conditions and real-world operating parameters.

RESULT:
Significantly extended service life, reduced wear despite the abrasive environment, and greater operational reliability. Maintenance intervals became more predictable, and unplanned downtime was sustainably reduced.
