Rail Technology
SAFE ON THE ROAD – WITH SEALING TECHNOLOGY AND SLIDING BEARINGS FOR THE RAIL VEHICLE INDUSTRY

In the field of rail vehicle technology, availability, durability, and safety are among the top priorities. Whether high-speed trains, freight cars, or light rail vehicles — the components used must be able to withstand extreme loads and changing environmental conditions over the long term. Seals and plain bearings from ttv make a decisive contribution to the reliability and cost-effectiveness of rail systems — for years to come.

Railway engineering requirements

Requirements in railway technology

Rail vehicles are used daily over long distances – often under extreme conditions. This results in clear requirements:

• Extreme temperature fluctuations
• High levels of dirt and moisture (e.g., brake dust, slush, oil)
• Constant vibrations and shock loads
• Long maintenance cycles and high service life requirements
• Compliance with railway-specific standards (e.g., EN 45545, DIN 27201, etc.)

ttv meets these challenges with heavy-duty, customer-specific sealing and plain bearing solutions that are both technically and economically impressive – and have proven themselves in daily railway use.

Project example: railway industry

A practical example shows how ttv can significantly improve operational reliability and service life in rail technology through customized solutions.

APPLICATION:
In automatic center buffer couplings for rail vehicles, plain bearing bushings provide movable bearings for central coupling components. The bearing points are exposed to high impact loads, temperature fluctuations, and contamination from dirt and moisture.

REQUIREMENT:
High mechanical load capacity, precise fit for backlash-free guidance, low friction, corrosion resistance, and low-maintenance operation over long periods of use.

SOLUTION APPROACH:
ttv supplied specially designed plain bearing bushings that were tailored to the respective load profiles of the coupling systems. The materials and surface treatments used were specifically selected to ensure that they remain functional even under changing climatic and mechanical conditions.

RESULT:
The ttv plain bearing bushings enable precise, durable, and maintenance-friendly bearing within the train coupling. The solution has already proven itself in years of real-world use with significantly reduced maintenance intervals, higher functional reliability, and stable performance over the entire life cycle of the coupling.
