High levels of competitive pressure, extremely demanding technical requirements and industry players’ desire to differentiate themselves from other companies all mean that components are now increasingly being developed to be customer and product-specific. The reasons for this are clear: standard products are usually immediately available, but are barely able to strike the right balance of noticeably longer service lives, innovative strength and competitive advantages. ttv is addressing this trend towards customised product solutions with a dedicated development department.

Over recent years, ttv has further established itself as a specialist in drive technology, with its two competence fields of seals and slide bearings. Just a few examples of the typical challenges faced by ttv here include applications relating to drives, gearboxes, engines, pumps and valves. Customers usually start off with a very clear profile of previous experience and objectives, where the installed standard stock products are often no longer adequate to deal with the increasingly demanding requirements. These include continuous operation with increased temperature development and friction, or the exposure to dust and moisture due to outdoor applications.
This development lead ttv to the strategic decision to set up a separate department for customer-specific product solutions, with first-class capacity to support ttv customers. ttv has an experienced team of technology and engineering specialists to help with this task, and we attend to every conceivable detail of a project. Seals and slide bearings are only comparatively small components in the area of technological components and assemblies, but this does not change the fact that both product categories are often crucial for the service life and functionality of drive technology assemblies.
Customer and project-specific solutions from ttv have lead to demonstrable and significant increases in service life, temperature resistance, friction properties and leak-tightness over recent years.
The requirements were clear: The new shaft sealing rings needed to withstand a wider temperature range and meet these criteria with multiple sealing and dust lips.
The ttv team started by carrying out compatibility tests with customer-specific lubricants in the temperature limit range. Based on a project successfully carried out several years previously, a shaft sealing ring was then developed with the technicians and developers, with multiple radial and axial sealing and dust lips.
Shaft sealing rings for mechanical engineering are a typical example of ttv’s problem-solving expertise. According to the customer requirements, significantly longer service lives for the motor and transmission were right at the heart of their objectives. Previously, these longer service lives had lead in part to a huge amount of shaft run-in, sealing lip wear and leaks.
The ttv developers drew on the geometry and material of the shaft sealing rings, and optimised them in accordance with their use. The fillers used in the compound and the applied radial forces were set on the test bench in continual operation at the laboratory.
